Chicago is a beautiful place ,if you are into art and architecture then the city gives you more than you expect . With all the museums around and the buildings with different architectures its a feast to the eyes and soul.
Visiting Chicago in a Day might be time crunched but not impossible. So if you happen to move around Illinois drop by atleast for a day or two to visit most of the places.
This is the itinerary I followed when I had to complete majority in a day. But went ahead to complete few other museums on other days but this should cover major attractions. It has minimal travel. Mostly walking around to breathe in the city the only time I took a taxi was from Field museum to the sky deck and it was walking again. that too can be walked around but I was too tired.

Just download the map if you don’t have mobile data . Started early around 8 am with the millenium park and the art installations. Must visit is the Cloud gate (the Bean). Since its early less people around you have exclusive access to the art.

Walked through the crown fountain and different art installations along the path. It was great seeing art with tyres, bamboos and different materials. The buckingham fountain was closed as it was winter when we visited but the place was still beautiful.
Walk towards the field museum from the fountain. Spend time at the Field museum I gave myself 2-3 hours which was good enough for the museum. Loved watching all the dinosaur fossils and the different sections they have. My favourite was Egypt. Have lunch at the museum to conclude the morning half by around 3pm.
Started with sky deck enjoyed the views took some pics and walked towards the architectural tour. Try to hop in Girardelli for some hot coffee , loved the hot chocolate there too. The evening breeze with learning about new architecture made the experience better.

Once the architectural tour is done walk towards Chicago 360 to experience the chicago 360 tilt. It was good not scary but few people before me screamed their heads off so . Take your time for a nice dinner at Cheesecake factory . The cheesy nachos are amazing and was so full at the end to have a cheesecake.
